Lyric Coloratura Soprano, Marlissa Hudson comes to Colorado Springs from the Washington D.C. area to perform Les Illuminations with the orchestra. This exciting soprano is noted for “a fascinating voice that carries intense emotion at the high end of her range and moody soul on the low end.” – Chris King, St. Louis American Newspaper. This will be her first appearance with COS.
And Colorado Springs Philharmonic violinist Desiree Cedeno-Suarez returns to our stage once again to perform the Mendelssohn violin concerto.
Revolutionary poet Arthur Rimbaud rocked the world of poetry with his Illuminations, which inspired Benjamin Britten to write a song cycle based upon the poems. Two other musical revolutionaries, Mendelssohn and Mozart, round out this program with pieces that changed music forever. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto redefined the genre, while Mozart’s Jupiter symphony brought symphonic form to a new level. (Program Notes)
