Interrupted: Suppressed Composers of the Holocaust Lecture at Colorado College
March 4, 2020
Interrupted, A Project of Suppressed Voices of the Holocaust, aims to present works by composers whose lives were ended by the Nazi regime. Music interrupted by the Holocaust has been documented by musicologist to be on equal footing with other 20th century creatives yet for more than 75 years has remained largely unknown and rarely performed. This project is not meant to memorialize but rather give a voice to those who were silenced. The recovery and performance of these composers helps restore their place in music history and repair a major rupture in the soul of 20th century classical music. Performances will be complemented by archival photographs of the composers and their lives with full sensitivity to the ethics of Holocaust representation, as well an in-depth lecture by Ofer Ben-Amots, Department Chair, Colorado College and an informational display from the Greenberg Center for Learning and Tolerance. Students from Colorado College were invited and in attendance.

Meet the Orchestra with Instrument Petting Zoo at First Christian Church
January 7, 2012
Meet the Orchestra is an exciting, interactive musical event for children featuring selections of music that highlight the sounds and sights of the different instrument groups in the orchestra. The orchestra musicians are spread out in an orchestra-in-the-round format. Children are invited to move through and around the orchestra for a close-up view of the instruments in motion as selections by Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn and more are played. Before and after the concert, children experienced a hands-on instrument petting zoo sponsored by Graner Music. Our Meet-the-Orchestra (MTO) concerts, typically accompanied by a hands-on instrument "petting" zoo, arose from our strategic plan to engage young audiences with interactive formats. The orchestra musicians spread out in an orchestra-in-the-round format and children are invited to move through and around the orchestra for a close-up view of the instruments in motion. Our first program took place January 7, 2012 at First Christian Church downtown Colorado Springs, our second program took place on April 6, 2013 at the Citadel Mall Imagination Celebration Space and our third program took place February 1, 2014 at First Christian Church. A sample audience feedback from our second program at the Citadel Mall Imagination Celebration Space, summarizes the audience experience quite well at http://www.chamberorchestraofthesprings.org/meet-the-orchestra-april-2013.html . These events attracted very diverse audiences of around 250 youth and parents, many attending a concert for the first time.
