This collaboration with TESSA (www.tessacs.org, a local domestic abuse help non-profit in town) aims to present an artistic consciousness-raising response to the domestic abuse issues exacerbated by COVID quarantines. The impactful, emotive program of vocal works, intended as an empowering hope-raiser, will center on the nationally renowned Jake Heggie opera “To Hell and Back” which articulates the myth of Persephone in a modern-day spousal abuse setting and will be complemented by several topically relevant musical theater songs (from shows like Hadestown, Waitress, Carousel. Kiss me Kate) and poetry/journaling testimonials submitted by Colorado Springs domestic violence survivors. It is being scheduled for October 2021.
