Erika Devins' flair for music-making was born at an early age. From it spawned her love of music and passion for music-making. When the presentation of her talents began, around age 7, shining performance abilities first sparkled; and her aptitude for instrumental performance became apparent. Through her school-age years she enjoyed learning piano, flute, violin, cello, and trumpet. She would begin formal study at Augusta State University in Augusta, GA (after having served 5 years in the U.S. Army). She would experience her first private lessons there, with Dr. Angela Morgan. She studied Music Education at ASU for three years, and as her understanding of the importance of music grew, as did Erika’s kinship with performance and knack for people skills. In 2002 she co-founded and managed the DIVA String Quartet. The young quartet performed upwards of 100 performances together and Erika would find her love of teaching at a non-profit organization called The Art Factory, Inc., a community school of the arts. Ultimately, in May 2010, her undergraduate study would produce a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Colorado State University in Pueblo, CO. There Erika studied under world-renowned violinist Karine Garibova and she gained a new understanding of the art of playing the violin. Soon after, Erika accepted an assistantship to attend the University of Nevada-Reno Department of Music and accepted into the studio of Stephanie S’ant Ambrogio, world-class violinist and teacher. The culmination of her studies not only deemed Erika a Master of Music in Violin Performance, with an emphasis in Orchestral Career Studies, it also gave her a huge wealth of education and years of practical experience as a teacher. In 2014, she founded Strings Lessons by Erika Devins, Old Colorado City, CO whose mission is to teach students who are passionate about music how to be competitive on a global scale. This studio, now called Strings Things by Erika Devins offers many services: Music for ANY Occasion, Music Lessons, and Recording!
