Your City’s Chamber Orchestra
In Our 43rd Season
A Season of Stories
Music is capable of many things: providing a transformative emotional experience, serving as a means of cultural exchange, or simply expressing beauty through form, harmony, and melody.
But perhaps most of all, music has the ability to tell stories.
This 2026-27 season is a collection of music that either tells stories, or is inspired by stories. In particular, every concert on the season contains some connection to noteworthy poetry or literature.
You’ll find historical masters alongside the living greats; music that challenges alongside music that comforts; pieces that are intimate and pieces that are strident and bold. It’s a season that strives to be for everyone, but that always – in typical Chamber Orchestra of the Springs fashion – seeks that less-traveled road and that colorful corner not-yet explored.

UNTOLD STORIES
Sat, Oct 10th - 7:30PM • Sun, Oct 11th - 2:30PM
Ent Center for the Arts • Chapman Recital Hall
If two is company and three is a crowd, what do you call a concert with ten soloists? It’s nothing short of an extravaganza, highlighting the incredible local talent within the Chamber Orchestra’s ranks.
Half of the soloists will share the stage for Valentini’s famous concerto grosso – a Baroque musical form that contrasts a small group with the full orchestra. The other soloists will feature in Valerie Coleman’s Phenomenal Women, which takes inspiration from the poetry of Maya Angelou and the legacies of incredible American women.

SPEAK TO ME IN SILENCE
Sat, Nov 7th - 7:30PM • Sun, Nov 8th - 2:30PM
Ent Center for the Arts • Chapman Recital Hall
The silence we leave behind and the words we wish we’d spoken – Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms is a mournful, deeply personal elegy for strings that is dedicated to the fearless composer’s late mother and based on the poetry of Thich Nhat Hanh.
The journey continues through the sparkling soundscapes of Nicky Sohn’s guitar concerto, written as a showcase for Bokyung herself, and concludes with the harmonic perfection of Mozart: an eight-movement serenade that is a world all its own.

HEART OF LIFE

Ent Center for the Arts • Shockley Zalabak Theater
The winner of our 2025 Emerging Soloist Competition takes the stage for one of the most blisteringly virtuosic pieces of music in all the piano repertoire.
Nothing short of Beethoven’s best overture will do to open the concert, and we’ll close with the music of the oft-overlooked Emilie Mayer – frequently called the “female Beethoven” for her depth of Romantic feeling and lyricism.

We’ll return to the majestic halls of First United Methodist Church for a weekend of songs and stories, joined this time by the incomparable Colorado Springs Chorale.
Rutter’s Magnificat is a sacred celebration of the Virgin Mary with a Latin American twist. Then, the poetry of Tennyson and Goethe will serve as the launching point for an expedition into the heart of the human spirit.

One of America’s greatest living composers joins historical giants in our season finale – Mazzoli’s These Worlds In Us honors her father’s military service, and takes inspiration from the poetry of James Tate.
Considerably older verses underpin Finzi’s melancholy memorial for his brother and teacher, before we close with the next of the Chamber Orchestra’s turn through the Haydn “London” symphonies.
